New Heights Equestrian

During her time at Colorado State University, Jillian was taught many natural horsemanship techniques that now lay the foundation of her training. This sort of training is based on the ability of the Trainer to make the incorrect action more difficult for the horse, and make the correct action easier for them. Combined with a superb understanding of equine behavior and years of experience riding "green" horses, Jillian is able to train horses in a manner that avoids cruelty yet is still extremely effective.

What are the requirements for horses in training with Jillian? What disciplines does she train?

Jillian will not break horses, but will put finishing training on horses that have been ridden under saddle and already know basic cues, or horses with behavioral problems (contact her to discuss individual training needs). Jillian trains horses in basic dressage and hunter/jumper. Many horses have talent for these disciplines regardless of breed or age.

Why should I put my horse in training?

The definition of training is to increase sale value of an animal. Of course, many of us train horses for other reasons (competition goals, for our own pleasure or hobby, etc.) Training opens many doors for horses and riders, whether it be to compete or to have a safe companion to go trail-riding with. Owners trying to sell horses may want to consider additional training, as horses who are properly trained in various disciplines can be sold for a higher profit, as well as being more likely to find a home where they enjoy their career.

What is the cost?

Training ride prices begin at $40/hour, and may increase or decrease depending on distance, amount of time needed for a particular horse (for example, if one horse needs to be lunged and ridden), and number of rides per week (discounts may be given for multiple rides). Please contact us for a price quote.

What if I don't have a riding arena?

Jillian is willing to work horses in pastures if an arena isn't available, as long as the footing is determined to be safe prior to riding. Otherwise, horses may be trailered in to another facility for training rides. New Heights Equestrian does not provide transportation for horses, so this would be the owner's responsibility. Training rides will be cancelled if safe footing is compromised due to poor weather.

What if I want to send my horse to Jillian's dominant training facility for training?

If you would like to send your horse to Jillian's dominant training facility, please contact her to discuss the options further. Discounted packages may be available.

Are there discounts for lessons and training?

Jillian offers discounts to owners or riders wishing to take lessons and have their horses in additional training, as well as multiple lessons or training rides per week.

Do I need my own equipment?

If you do not have tack, contact Jillian. She may have tack that fits your horse.
